Modelling Broadband Fixed Wireless Access with Visualyse

Terrestrial spectrum sharing problems don’t come any more intricate than broadband fixed wireless access (BFWA) sharing with radio astronomy (RAS).

The BFWA systems are complex, using a cellular structure with many different deployment options. The RAS operates with very sensitive receivers and very tight sharing criteria. Mitigation techniques suggested involve multiple exclusion zones based on local topography around the RAS sites.

Visualyse Professional has been used to model all the elements of this difficult problem. A study report was prepared and presented to the UK industry as a basis for sharing in the 43 GHz band.
